Joint Base Andrews, MD – Naval Air Facility (NAF) Washington In partnership with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR), DC ESGR Committee hosted a successful luncheon for local employers on July 13, 2011.
Captain Randy Johnson, Commanding Officer, Naval Air Facility Washington, and Major General (Ret) George Alexander, ESGR Chair, District of Columbia Committee, was on hand to welcome the 50 employers and their employees. Twenty-six employers signed Statements of Support.
MR. Gerard P. Panaro, Esq., DC ESGR Committee, provided the 50 employers and the service members with a briefing of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
The luncheon, provided by the DC ESGR Committee, followed by a tour of military aircraft and equipment provided an introduction to employers of the tools that help guard and reservist complete their mission. “I think today’s event was very informative for the employers to seen how our military members continue to serve on their reserve obligation” related Sgt. Tamisha McSears, Pentagon Police Officer and employer of reservist personnel.
“The static displays were interesting to see up close and to see how the equipment is used for our reserve members,” continued McSears. “I feel that it was important for my employer to see what I do as a reservist and share a part of my experience,” said Master-at-Arms First Class Avonne Collins, an activated reservist at NAF Washington. “My boss and I have already established a stronger relationship from this luncheon as far as a respect of the work and military missions”.
With the conclusion of the tour, service members and employers alike felt the experience and knowledge gained from the event would have a lasting impression. Thanks to the combined efforts of the NAF Washington and the DC ESGR Committee. |
