Yakima Training Center, WA – The 194th Regional Support Wing, Washington Air National Guard, hosted and organized a Bosslift event.  Twenty-six employers from Western and Central Washington attended a live-fire demonstration by A-10 aircraft employing 500 lb bombs, 2.75 rockets and 30mm cannon.  Many of the employers were accompanied by their Guardsmen.

Employers received a welcome briefing, highlighting the organization and accomplishments of the 194th RSW and information on ESGR programs available to Guardsmen and their employers.  Joint Tactical Air Controllers (JTACs) from the 194th air Support Operations Group orchestrated a 45-minute live-fire demonstration, controlling weapons from the A-10 “Warthogs” of the Idaho Air National Guard’s 124th Fighter Wing. The world’s premier attack aircraft employed a variety of live weapons—500-lb Mk-82 bombs, 2.75” white phosphorous rockets, and 30mm cannon rounds--within 2,000 meters of the observers.  During the demonstration, guests were able to listen to the communications between the JTACs and A-10s, catching a glimpse of the detailed coordination required to safely and successfully employ combat airpower.

The 194th RSW has 1,012 Guardsmen assigned.  26 are currently in Afghanistan.  Of these, 23 are Tactical Air Controllers.  The 194th did a superb job hosting this event and getting employers close enough to feel combat power.  This BossLift provided employers a better understanding of the significant combat contributions of the 194th RSW and what their Guardsmen do when they are away from their civilian occupation for duty with their military units.  Supportive employers are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units.

As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions with America’s borders and beyond, ESGR will continue to be the resource for the employers of citizen warriors. ESGR provides education, consultation, and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees.
