On 19 OCT 2011, Lieutenant Junior Grade Myke Cole presented Anne Sowards, his acquiring editor at Penguin Books, with the ESGR Patriot Award.

LTJG Cole said to ESGR representatives, "I wanted to let you know and attach a picture of the presentation. I called the office, and while they cannot confirm it because National Guard reports through state channels, they were certain that this is the first time a publisher has received the Patriot Award for giving a book deal to a reservist.  Penguin is very excited about this, and I hope you are too. Thanks for instituting and administering this important program. It is really helping to drive home the importance of everyone's role in supporting our military."
