Instead of the office in New Jersey, they observed them at a Florida Air Force base, on a runway that's blown up once a week just so it can be fixed.  They listened to New Jersey Air National Guard members describe the repairs as plumes of black smoke billowed from a plane set ablaze to teach other airmen firefighting skills.

Area residents serving in the National Guard or Reserves who feel they’re well supported by their employers are encouraged to nominate them for a national award.  Dick Rue of Des Moines is field committee chairman of the Iowa Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve or ESGR.  Rue says employers are obligated to do certain things for citizen soldiers like having a comparable job waiting for the soldier when they come home from active duty and are ready to return to work.

National Guard and Reserve members and their families are encouraged to visit www.FreedomAward.mil through January 18, 2010 to nominate employers for the 15th Anniversary Freedom Award, the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their support of employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Award nominees will be recognized by the Department of Defense and announced in March 2010. The15 award recipients will be announced in early summer.

Anchorage, Alaska – On Dec. 9, 2009, there will be 16 branch managers of Denali Alaskan Federal Credit Union who will sign a Statement of Support for their Guard and Reserve employees at the credit union’s main branch on the corner of 36th Ave. and Denali at 11:45 a.m. They will join the 775 employers who have signed a Statement of Support with their local Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee. The Harrison County Military Support Group made 33 service men and women over seas very happy  Tuesday Dec. 1st. Over 50 volunteers met at the Cadiz Fire House and in 2 hours 66 boxes were assembled, packed and secured to be sent out. Volunteers from Wintersville, Smithfield, Scio, Jewett, Hopedale, Freeport, Cadiz and other areas of the county came together and filled boxes with goodies.
