SALEM, Ore. - Radio personality Lars Larson was thanked live on his own radio show for his support of the Oregon ESGR Committee on May 28. Oregon ESGR public affairs director Mike Allegre presented the nationally known radio host with the Seven Seals Award live on his daily statewide talk show, which was broadcasting from the “Golfing with the Guard” fund raising event in Beaverton.
Before 2009, Oregon’s ESGR had no personalized public service announcement for use on radio stations. Allegre composed two scripts and asked Larson to lend his voice to the PSAs for statewide distribution.
“Most Oregon veterans and supporters of the military know that Lars is a conservative pro-military journalist. More importantly Lars is a friend of the ESGR and of all Oregon military members and veterans. He never hesitated to help with our project,” Allegre said.
“Having his voice bringing the Oregon ESGR message on the 18 stations that broadcast his show is a powerful marketing opportunity for us.”
Allegre voiced another version of the PSA for stations who do not broadcast Larson’s show. He then distributed them to most stations in Oregon. Many Portland area stations won’t provide much air time for the PSAs, but others in the smaller and medium sized markets have played them off an on since last fall and will do so again in 2010.
