This trip stated from the Johnstown, Pa. area. We all had to drive down to Norfolk, Va. There were 28 employers and close to ten family members. The first day was Friday after arriving in Norfolk, Va. our group tour NOB ( Navy Operational Base). Saturday May 1, 2010 0600 at the Navy Exchange,we meet with Capt. Quagliottms, this Capt was in charge of the Medical Department. This CAPT was our sponsor to get on the ship. CAPT "Q" brief our group, told us that the CAPT.,XO & crew. are honor to have us as guest. After the ship got out to sea . The CAPT said on the ICS, that the USS George H W Bush CVN 77 has some special guest. These guest are Pennsylvania ESGR & Employers .
The Capt. invite our group to the bridge of the ship and gave our group a personal welcome and had one of his officer show us the operation of the Bridge. Not all of our group made it to the Bridge. The BRIDGE is another six to seven stories above the Flight Deck. Than our group was invite down to the Admiral and Captain Stateroom (This area is about the size of a little house, with a bedroom, bathroom, and a large entertaining area.. At these quarters were were treated as VIP and feed. The tour guide were Rich Huber and me. Rich and I both serve on the USS Forrestal CVA 59. ESGR had the run of the ship to go anywhere on this ship, except the area of the Nuclear Redactor. On Sunday we had a tour of Fort Monroe, but most decline because of the long day we had on the USS George H W Bush CVN 77. This Tiger Cruise we were on was from little after 0600 to time of 2200 till we got back to our cars.
One participant stated " This was a trip of a life time, Thanks to Greg Simmons who made all this happen. We were treated to an air show at sea and the performers were F A 18'S, coppers a whacks and rescue teams we got to see them brake the sound barrier do touch and go landings on the carrier just what a trip. We were out to sea about75 miles" |
