VALENTINE — Fort Niobrara National Wildlife Refuge and the US Fish and Wildlife Service has been honored for patriotism and understanding by one of their own.
Troy Davis (left in photo) was nominated for the Nebraska Committee For Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s Patriot Award by Loren Eaton (right), a part-time soldier and full-time employee of the FWS on the refuge near Valentine.
Steven Hicks, project leader at the refuge complex, Davis’ supervisor and a 101st Airborne veteran himself, said, “We always want to do our best by National Guard and Reserve members. They are the true spirit of this nation.”
Jim Deuel, a Nebraska ESGR Committee volunteer, presented the award, recognizing the support and cooperation Eaton has received from fire management officer Davis.
ESGR volunteers provide free education, consultation and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve personnel.
