KEARNEY – Sahling Kenworth’s unwavering support of the reserve components of the U.S. military has been recognized in a uniquely personal way.
Sgt. Paul Mills, a member of the United States Army Reserve and also a Sahling Kenworth employee, nominated the company for an ESGR Patriot Award, then presented it himself, in uniform, to owner John Sahling at the firm’s Kearney location Sept. 1. Sahling also has locations in Columbus and York.
ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve) is an agency of the U.S. Defense Department staffed almost entirely by volunteers. Nebraska’s ESGR Committee is headquartered in Lincoln.
Employers who stand solidly behind their civilian and military, dual-duty employees are invaluable to America’s defense; especially in light of the fact nearly half of current U.S. military strength is comprised of Guard or Reserve forces.
Sgt. Mills, in his nomination narrative, wrote: “The upper ownership and management of Sahling Kenworth has displayed their support of my military duties, both scheduled and unscheduled. They have allowed me to take time off on short notice so that I was, and am, able to help my unit complete their missions. They have been supportive to my family when I am gone for training. They allow me on my off hours to use the shop to continue to have my vehicle in top condition for travel to and from drill and annual training. Finally, the upper ownership and management of Sahling Kenworth takes time out of their day to personally welcome me back and ensure that my family and myself are doing OK.”
ESGR volunteers provide free education, consultation and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve personnel.
